by Alvaro Neder Os Paralamas do Sucesso are a successful Brazilian pop/rock band. This album brings something Brazilian to their sound, usually based in pure rock/pop grooves. With special guests Tom Zé, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Fito Paez, Brian May, Reggae Philharmonic Orchestra, Egberto Gismonti they cover their originals "No me estrague o meu dia," hip-hop/Olodum rhythm; "Navegar impreciso," funk with Tom Zé and his effects and voice; the stylized baio "Varal," the best song in the album, together with their hit "Quase um segundo" in its Spanish version "Casi un segundo," with Egberto Gismonti on the keybords; the Olodum-type groove "Réquiem do pequeno"; their samba-funk hit "Vamo batê lata," recorded with enormous success by Fernanda Abreu, "El vampiro bajo el sol," with music and participation of Fito Paez, a typical rock ballad; the Olodum-type "Músico," with lyrics by Tom Zé; the funk "Dos Margaritas"; the "O rio Severino," cantiga de cego-influenced rock; the "Cagao" funk; the "O amor dorme" song; and the bonus track covering the Tropicália hit "Go back" (Sérgio Britto/Torquato Neto) in a hip hop rendition.
