by scott yanowa promising young tenor saxophonist, teodross avery made his recording debut as a leader on grp when he was a few days short of turning 21. he had studied classical guitar when he was ten, switched to alto at 13, and a few years later took up the tenor. avery studied with joe henderson, attended berklee, and soon was leading his own group. in 1993, he appeared on a carl allen record and then utilized his quartet on his grp debut.
