"sound-off time" was a live, half-hour variety series with fred allen and bob hope alternating at hosts, and not very successfully. however, on december 16, 1951, "sound-off time" aired the pilot for "dragnet." the broadcast garnered "sound-off time's" best rating. it's sponsor, liggett & myers tobacco, promptly dropped the comedians in favor of the cop.
