by Ed Hogan Issued in the spring of 1976, It's Good to Be Alive was D.J. Rogers' RCA debut after having recorded for Leon Russell's Shelter label. It was a unique mix of soul and gospel that featured the original version of his classic ballad single, &Say You Love Me.& Another standout track is the poignant &Bula Jean.& Those two, along with the upbeat &Hold on, Be Strong,& received radio play. The sparse framework, a rhythm section with a smattering of horns, probably gives Rogers the best showcase for his songs. Some of the album's track can be found on Golden Classics.
