简介

富兰克林·罗斯福，美国第32任总统，美国历史上惟一一位残疾人总统，他打破了美国总统不能连任两届以上的惯例，树立了一个坚忍、机智、奋斗不息的形象，创造了美国空前绝后的纪录，总统任期长达12年。在早期，政治生涯大有希望的时候，39岁的富兰克林·罗斯福不幸患上了小儿麻痹症。在与考克斯共同竞选总统失败后，1921年8月罗斯福来到到加拿大度假，而正好赶上当地森林大火，救火后疲惫的他选择了下水游泳，因抵抗力下降，游泳后高烧不断，患上了小儿麻痹症。HBO的这部影片关注了罗斯福与瘫痪抗争期间的故事。他选择了佐治亚一家偏僻、破败的"温泉"康复院作为自己的庇护所，而来自家人的压力让他重新返回到公众生活和政治活动中。也许在与瘫痪所带来的耻辱的斗争中，最重要的战斗不是来自于他人的看法，而是如何去自我认识。
