In the 90s, the music industry wasn’t quite sure yet how to work with the rapid changes in the digital sector, especially concerning the development of the PC as a home studio. Even at this time, mono:massive, aka Daniel Schatz (who was 15 at the time), was already working with his equipment, programming his own beat patterns. Being inspired by his role models from New York, London, and Tokyo, he began a musical journey that hasn’t come to an end to this day. You will not find a conventional release by mono:massive – however, the impact he has on his musical environment cannot be ignored. He is one of the founding fathers of the “BeatniksCrew”, producer for the DJ ensemble “Phonosapiens”, and provides beats on a regular basis for friends overseas, such as “Cerebral Vortex”, “Vertual Vertigo”, or “Buddy Leeroy”. Through these activities, he has come to some fame, pledging for his restless work between PC, MPC, and SP1200.
