本片描写由克里茜·洛克主演的一位倍受摧残的可爱的英国普通劳动妇女玛吉的人生故事。因为她的一时疏忽,造成长子肖恩被严重烧伤,所以她和以前的四个男人所生的四个小孩被社会公益部门收容照管。后来她认识了弗拉迪米尔·维加饰演的霍尔赫,虽然他们相亲相爱但还是不能摆脱她无权做母亲的权利。
