由乐手Adam Anderson与主唱 Theo Hutchcraft的英国忧郁型男双人组Hurts，即将在今年三月11日发行他们的第二张录音室专辑「Exile」。 曾于前年五月来台演出的两人，2010年的首张专辑「Happiness」里那歌剧般的冷郁电子曲风，直让人想起80年代Synth Pop名团 Depeche Mode。两人帅气姣好的面孔与被包装后更显突出的灰暗气质，在当时就吸引不少注意，主唱Theo的迷人颓嗓更被传媒浪漫化以忧郁(Gloom)来形容。 从Hurts最近发表的三首新歌看来，这股悲伤气质到了新专辑里，只会更沉更重。无论是藏在「The Road」副歌里的歌德怨灵或「Miracle」的盛大呐喊，宛如Coldplay的「Princess of China」重现，甚至是「Exile」那座器乐干洗工厂(Dry Cleaner)，将熨烫气声、各式铁架撞击声交迭在一起，气势磅礡，倘以厄运(doom)来形容，再贴切不过。 文/Damien ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Promotion for Exile started with a two-minute mini-promo for "The Road" directed by Nez Khammal, which was uploaded on YouTube as a teaser for the album. Conceptually, the video takes the viewer on a journey of the life of Hurts duo Theo Hutchcraft and Adam Anderson-the camera continuously backing up through various tableaux that represent stages of their development. The music video uses a slow motion technique-about 30 seconds of actual film-and was shot between 1 and 2 December 2012 in the UK. Three days before releasing "The Road" on the official Hurts site, an countdown began. During those days, five parts of the video from the real road trip were shown one by one. It was a night car-trip in Serbia with strange black figures along the side of the road. Track "The Road" is about a car accident, and inspired by J. G. Ballard's "Crash". "We tried to write the darkest song we could", Hutchcraft says. "We thought 'How bleak can we make it'". It is amazingly dark song, coloured by Cormac McCarthy's apocalyptic novel "The Road", which Hutchcraft read three times while writing the album. "We wanted people to hear "The Road" first because it's the most extreme example of the idea on the record." On 7 February 2013 five songs from the upcoming album premiered live. Besides "Miracle" and "The Road", they also played "Exile", "Blind", and "Cupid" for the first time. For the promotion the song "Sandman" is available for free download from Hurts' official site since 12 February 2013, when it was premiered on BBC Radio 1 in Zane Lowe programme. The duo performed their cover of Bruno Mars "Locked Out Of Heaven" along with "Exile"(Track 1) and "Miracle" (Track 2) on BBC Radio 1 in Zane Lowe live session from Maida Vale Studios 13 February 2013.
