by Alex Henderson Some people believe that disco ended with the 1970s, but truth be told, disco never died; it simply changed its name to dance music in the 1980s and became more high-tech. Essentially a continuation of late-1970s Euro disco, hi-NRG is among the forms of dance music that excited club hounds in the 1980s and 1990s. Hi-NRG has been big all over Europe, and one of the continent's many Hi-NRG acts was the female Italian duo Fun Fun. Have Fun!, which TSR licensed from Italy's Energy Productions in 1985, pretty much picks up where the Silver Convention left off. The members of Fun Fun aren't great singers, but then, they don't need to be -- producers/mixers Dario Raimondi and Alvaro Ugolini are really the ones running the show. On tunes like "Color My Love," "Happy Station," "Living in Japan," and the Chic-influenced "Give Me Your Love," they see to it that the beats and grooves come alive and make you want to dance. All of those jams fared well on European dance floors, and in the U.S. they were well-received by gay and Latino clubs. Chic's influence also asserts itself on "Give a Little Love Again," the most urban contemporary song on the LP, which is also too slow to be called Hi-NRG. A few of the tunes are pedestrian, but for the most part, Have Fun! serves as a likable example of 1980s Euro-dance music.
