property owner fuzzy q. jones (al st. john),against the advice of his pal billy carson (buster crabbe), is about to wed matilda boggs (patricia knox), a young gold-digger he has been corresponding with through a lonely hearts club. fuzzy refuses to sell valuable water-rights, and this displeases jim mcallister (steve darrell) to the extent he his his henchmen frame fuzzy with a murder charge. this displeases billy and he sets out to prove fuzzy's innocence.
