Although Pamela Rodríguez was born in Lima, the capital city of Peru, she has always been enticed by other paths of life, territories and cities. She does indeed move to a different city every three weeks. Despite she is 28 years old, she believes she’s reincarnated many times since she is proclive towards affairs that are very often dissimilar. Even though Pamela is a musician, she also paints and writes. She is a woman entirely committed to her art and work, but there isn’t anything on Earth she loves more than being a mother. One can say Pamela Rodríguez is split into two persons. One person being a hurricane on stage before the solitude of her piano, and the other one being in her own habitat right at her home where she can also find tranquility next to her beloved ones. Pamela has lived in Peru, Canada and Venezuela. She has studied music composition at the prestigious University of North Texas (UNT) and continues to study music by herself and under the guidance of various professors. She loves music regardless the genre, but she has always cherished the work of Peruvian singer Chabuca Granda and Canadian singer，songwriter Joni Mitchel with a passion that rubs the feelings of devotion since her childhood. It was during that early period of her life she showed her artistic leanings, as she preferred brushes to dolls, drums to video games and words to silence. That’s why she began writing poems at seven, painting at twelve, and writing songs at fourteen. However, it was during the first years of her adolescence that music sheltered her from the creative and professional stance and has taken her along a path of insatiable search on which she still walks. She has exhibited her paintings and written books she longs to publish. She has also been nominated to the Latin Grammy Award 2006 as Best New Artist, and has performed her music in many cities around the world. As a composer, she writes music from love and indifference. She also writes about her own experiences creating melodies out of intuition and the instinctive need to interpret reality through a song. “I am an artisan of songs”, says Pamela of her life’s work. However, she is able to interpret the beauty created by other composers as one can see that her repertoire not only includes her own songs but also those written by Chabuca, Fito Páez, Jorge Lazo, and ‘Kiri’ Escobar, among others. Her songs often tell about Peru and her universal life experiences. Pamela has recorded three albums to date. Perú Blue released in 2006, En La Orilla released in 2008 and her latest work entitled Reconocer due in October this year. The first one explores the music of Peru and its cultural richness. The second one found Pamela undergoing a painful love relationship breakup that deepened her personal and contemporary quest into the Peruvian rhythms. In her new outing, the artist reflects her recent experiences and tells us about the exile and the freedom, love and maternity, and again, her constant changes of countries and those sounds between here and there. The album has fresh sounds, indie pop and alternative music influences. It also has an artisanal language in its lyrics and plenty of friendship as she counts on the collaborations of her best friends not just in music, but in the visual and creative aspect of the project. Like any other artist does by nature, Pamela Rodríguez has opted for her freedom and her temporary moments of insanity and serenity. As she inhabits her multipolar world of artist and cultural promoter through her independent production company Mamacha, which she founded in 2009, Pamela is still the humble and honest girl she’s always been except that she is now has a flood of creativity.
