by Skip Jansen The second album from Keiji Haino 's covers unit, the Tokyo avant-garde guitarist has transformed his love of '60s rock & roll into a futuristic noise maelstrom in his Fushitsusha , a group whom he says is inspired by Blue Cheer , yet the resulting sound of that trio is an ethereal and avant-garde approach to the trace elements of rock. Similarly, with this trio he effectively adopts the songs of Japanese '60s garage rock groups -- the Spiders and the Ronettes among them -- and gives the songs a blowtorch treatment, rendering them utterly unrecognizable. The highlight, however, is the Rolling Stones ' "Satisfaction," a version in which the signature Keith Richards riff and the Mick Jagger pout are far from featured. Instead the group mutates the tune into a fierce tantrum of rock-trio noise occasionally referencing the ghost of the song. Keiji Haino 's soaring cathartic vocal delivery and flux of static guitar eliminate any notion of the original, and instead render it an entirely new entity where the suggestive lyric certainly takes on a darker suggestive meaning.
