鲍伯·加德弗瑞，RolandFrederickGodfrey(born27May1921)isaBritishanimatorwhosecareerspansmorethanfiftyyears.Heisprobablybestknownforthechildren`scartoonseriesRoobarb(1974),NoahandNellyin...SkylArk(1977)andHenry`sCat(1983)andfortheTriochocolatebiscuitadvertisementsshownintheUKduringtheearly1980s.However,hehasalsoproducedaBAFTAandAcademyaward-winningshortfilmGreat(1975),atongue-in-cheekbiographyofIsambardKingdomBrunel.HewaspreviouslynominatedforaAcademyAwardforhisfilmKamaSutraRidesAgain(1971)whichwasscreenedwiththeUKreleaseofStanleyKubrick`sfilmAClockworkOrange.FurtherAcademyAwardsnominationswerereceivedforDreamDoll(1980),withZlatkoGrgic,andSmallTalk(1994).HeworkedatLarkinsStudioforaperiodwithPeterSachsbeforeleavingtosetupBiographicwithKeithLearner,JeffHale.FurthermembersjoinedincludingNancyHannaandVeraLinnecar.WhilestillworkingatLarkinshemadeBigParade(1952)andWatchtheBirdie(1954),afilminspiredbyapaintingbyPaulKlee,bothwerefilmedinthebasementofhisflat.HesubsequentlymadeDoItYourselfCartoonKitwhichsatirisesanimationandcommercialadvertising.Theuseofdifferentanimatedforms,materialsandtechniquesmakesitoneofhismostexcitingfilmstowatch.Theuseofcutoutanimationforthenarratorpre-datesTerryGilliam`suseofthetechnique,andthefilmisoftenmis-creditedasbeingproducedbyGilliam.MichaelBentineprovidedthenarrationforthefilmandworkedwithGodfreyonanumberoffilmsandcommercials.MostofGodfrey`sanimatedworkduringthe1950sand1960sappearedinTVcommercials,butin1964hestartedhisowncompanyBobGodfrey`sMovieEmporiumtodevelophisowncreativeprojectsincludingthefamouschildren`scartoons.HeisalsorecognisedforanumberofslightlyrisquécartoonssatirisingBritishsexualhabits,suchasHenry9To5,whichwasalsoawardedaBAFTAin1971.HealsoanimatedtheclassiccartoonAlf,BillandFred.Aswellasanimationheproducedliveactioncommercialsandshortfilms.AnumberofthemstarredtheartistBruceLaceywhoappearedinBattleofNewOrleans,TheHangingTree.Hisinterestinliveactionincludedanumberofappearancesinself-directedcommercialsandminorfilmrolesincludingTheBeatles`filmHelp!(
