everybody's talkin'

简介

by Matthew Greenwald Originally released in early 1967 as simply Fred Neil and re-released as Everybody's Talkin' in 1969 after Harry Nilsson had a huge international hit from the soundtrack of "Midnight Cowboy," this album is one of the greatest progressive folk albums to date. At the time of its recording, Neil was a well-known figure in the folk world and an influential hero to such up and coming future legends as David Crosby, Tim Buckley, John Sebastian, Stephen Stills, and many others. The reasons for this are all on this record. Every track on this superb album is marked by Neil's wholly original approach, combining folk, blues, gospel, and jazz (among other things) to create a synthesis that is beguiling to both the ear and the heart. Neil's baritone reaches its lowest, honey-soaked depths on cuts like "Faretheewell," "That's the Bag I'm In," the title track, and many more. Folk music (and music in general) doesn't get much better than this.
