简介

奥西·戴维斯 生于乔治亚州的科吉尔城。毕业于哈佛大学。因为爱好戏剧，到纽约进入罗丝麦克伦戏剧学校学习演技。1946年在百老汇主演舞台剧《杰夫》，成为纽约最著名的黑人演员。他除了演还写舞台剧本。1950年从影，第一部是约瑟夫孟基维兹导演，和李察威麦、薛尼鲍迪合演描写种族岐视的《无路可走》（No Way Out )。又在1965年的《The Hill》和1968年的《The Scalphunters》里表现也他独特而精湛的演技。1969年正式任导演，第一部作品是改编黑人作家吉史特海姆的名著小说《 Cotton Comes to Harlem》,他太太曾和他合演舞台剧《Anna Lucasta》，有一儿一女。
